PPIP is an evidenced based program. Its instructional design features are drawn from the findings and conclusions of the 2000 report of the National Reading Panel, Teaching Children to Read: An Evidence-Based Assessment of the Scientific Research Literature on Reading and Its Implications for Reading Instruction Reports of the Subgroups

Put Reading First: The Research Building Blocks for Teaching Children to Read is a publication developed by the Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement (CIERA) and funded by the National Institute for Literacy (NIFL). This publication is designed for the teaching profession audience, and summarizes the findings and conclusions of the NRP study.
